ABOUT
MALI LOŠINJ
The
picturesque town of Mali Lošinj lies in a long bay protected from winds on the
south – west coast of island Lošinj, the biggest sheltered bay of the
archipelago called Augusta. It is the biggest town on the Adriatic island with
a population of almost 7.000. The original occupations of the settlers used to
be connected with cattle breeding and farming. At the end of the 19th century,
when Mali Lošinj developed into a seafaring town, it became the centre of the
archipelago. The traces of the maritime past and the influence of sea captains
are still felt in the town of Mali Lošinj and its surroundings.
Rich
mediterranean vegetation – pinewood, cypress, palm and olive straight to the
seashore and beaches. Because of mild mediterranean climate, clear and limpid
sea, Mali Lošinj was in 1892 proclamated as a healty climate resort. With its
2600 solar hours yearly, without foggy days, Mali Lošinj offers a pleasant
vacation all over the year.
The
discovery of the therapeutic properties of the island climate and the
development of tourism as a new economic branch, marked the beginning of a new
era in Mali Lošinj's history.
The
fact that you can find a secluded beach just a 15-minute-walk from the town
centre makes this town unique. The coves and small harbours, pebbly and rocky
beaches, numerous footpaths and promenades, comfortable accommodation
facilities, exellent cuisine and friendly locals provide enough reasons to
spend your holiday on Lošinj!
